Android Tops iPhone – 7 Ways PC World Was Right

This can be a response to Eight ways PC World is wrong about the iPhone-Android by matchup by tuaw which has been a response to 7 Ways Android 2. 2 Froyo Tops Apple’s iPhone by PC Universe

In the article, Frank Rawson attempts to bump down Android accomplishments over the iPhone. He first claims that PC Universe is comparing today’s i phone with the ‘as-yet-unbuyable Froyo phones of tomorrow. ‘ Apparently someone is out of date. Froyo has been forced to the Nexus A single handset just days following the Google I/O. Just needed to be sure we are clear on that. android controller

1. Tethering-

PC World’s take: “Want to use your cellphone as a broadband device for your computer? With Android 2. 2 you can do it. With the iPhone you cannot. inches

tuaw’s take: “Yes, it’s true that you can’t tether in the US… But what almost all of these Android evangelism articles are overlooking is that tethering has been possible on the iPhone for almost a year around the globe, except in the US”

OK, so I would the mathematics. While we don’t know country outbreaks, we do know that Apple shipped 8. six million phones in their Q1 2010 (ended 12/26/09) and through AT&T’s Q4 2009 (ended 12/31/09) they activated 3. 1 , 000, 000, or about 36% of those sold.

America medical data for 36 percent of most iPhone sales. That’s a lot for a sole country. With America having the highest percentage of iPhone sales, you are likely to assume that it would be crafted for. However it basically, and this is where Android shines. Also take into consideration that the Android-iPhone battle is taking place in the usa. So of course what Android achieves in America vs what the iPhone accomplishes in the usa will matter and will someday determine the all out victor.

2. This turns your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot

tuaw’s take, “Now multiple Apple computers (or Wi-Fi only iPads) can piggyback off the tethered Mac’s link with the iPhone”

That’s recently been the problem. Apples close system doesn’t allow for good integration with other systems. If you want to make your Google android a hot-spot with any Wifi capable device, INCLUDING those pretty little MacBooks, you can. With the way tuaw describes it, it shows that it can only be used Mac pc to Mac. Even so, that method still find it difficult to be used in the usa (check my previous respond to that).

3. It takes on Flash

tuaw’s take: “Flash support on Android are mixed. Many reviewers thought the playback stutters on even moderately demanding online video content, crashes fairly often, and the handset turns into “piping hot” and will take a significant hit to battery life after only half an hour of use”

He talks about mixed reports, which means there were bad and there were good. Just, in open source, something an iPhone user would never realize, is that we never simply needed Flash. We wanted the option to work with it. So lets say I have a site that is Android Display compatible and i also am an hour or so from home, I need the ability to be able to CHOOSE to use Flash. We still own by simply allowing it.

4. It includes start apps

PC World’s take: “On the iPhone you can only download programs that Apple wants to help you to down load. ”

tuaw’s take: inches I can on my iPhone, too. With over 200, 000 software on the App Store, My spouse and i have yet to operate into a situation where My spouse and i said, “I wish there is an software that truly does (x)” without being able to find one”

Very well have you ever desired that you had an iphone app which gives you free turn by turn nav? Or what about an iphone app that allows free TEXT MESSAGE and voice calling through just an internet plan? You probably haven’t, because then you’d understand that there isn’t an iphone app for that. Android does not control its users experience. They respect the truth that we covered the device and therefore should make use of it how we see fit.

5. It multitasks

tuaw’s take: “I suppose they’ve been asleep within the past month, because multitasking is one of the key top features of iPhone OPERATING-SYSTEM 4. 0, very likely due for public release sometime within the next few weeks. ” This hasn’t happened yet. The fact that Android ended up first means Apple is merely playing catch up now. Owned.

6. It has an improved web browser

PC Uk’s take: “Android’s built-in web browser is excellent, when you don’t like it, you can always use another one, such as Safari, and eventually Firefox. inches

tuaw’s take: “PC Planet’s assertion that the only web browsers designed for the iPhone are Safari and Opera is also completely wrong. There are many alternate browsers available in the App-store other than Ie. True, each of them is based on WebKit like Safari, but that doesn’t mean they don’t count”

Umm… yes they do not depend. Once a browser, always a browser. Nevertheless , moving away from that point, Android has the most effective mobile browser (yes, it is faster than the iPad). So Android excels here and your argument is lacking in authority.

7. It offers you more carrier choice.

Statistically, about the war on mobile phones with Android and Apple, its all about handling the US market because the US market settings the worlds market over time. If a telephone is popular here it will be popular there. So for the i phone to be restricted to AT&T, shows that Android os still owns in this category. Tuaw’s justification is now lacking.
